If you could effortlessly access whatever it is that nourishes you most, what would you reach for today?

With a new business to tend, I found myself oddly intrigued when one of nature’s oldest growth experts appeared in my backyard. Overnight, a neon yellow slime mold claimed the shiitake logs that had for months been quietly decaying in the brush.

Some scientists argue slime molds exhibit a kind of intelligence because of their shocking ability to optimize their growth toward the nearest food source in the most efficient way possible.

Though they don’t have a brain as we know it, something that resembles problem-solving and pattern recognition seems to guide their speed and movement.

Imagine, moving toward what nourishes you that efficiently. That quickly. And with such diminished risk.

But there’s one more secret to their success. A slime mold can exist either as a single-celled organism, or join with others. That’s right:

Slime molds have the agency to optimize their organizational structure to reach the nearest source of nourishment in the most efficient way.

What if you could do the same? How would it feel to partner with others to handle activities that fall outside your core responsibilities, however you define them? Sometimes, efficiency calls for expanding your team.

For a lot of professionals in the outdoor and public landscape space, the activities that steal their efficiency are the very ones their brand depends on to stay healthy and strong: Engaging members, corresponding with donors, or looking for grant opportunities, just to name a few.

Maybe the help you need falls in some other area of work or life. Regardless, if you hear a voice saying it’s time to grow your support structure, keep looking for a way to reach that goal.

If the support you’re looking for happens to involve a marketing partner, well, that’s why I’m here.

I’m also here for this vivid portrait of effortless efficiency, courtesy of a fungus. Not to mention, color inspiration.

But that’s another post.
